Despite or arguably because of NYC being on its knees financially, the mid 70s gave rise to 3 of the world's great music genres and subcultures: Punk, Disco and Hip Hop. For Punk, NYC's equivalent of The King's Road and Kensington Market was St Mark's Place where numerous alternative style (and retro / vintage) clothing shops sprang up - the most famous and influential of which was Trash & Vaudeville.
