The original Rockabillies in the US dressed UP - to the nines. As could be expected of anyone from a poor background wanting to show off their new success. But later in his career the likes of Elvis enjoyed slumming it in distressed denim. So too the British kids who frequented a dance club called The Dirtbox. According to 'Shapers of the 80s - British youth culture at its finest' 'The no-socks 'hard times' style promulgated by the itinerant Dirtbox club-nights: The ever-photogenic Paul Sturridge caught in 1984 with Dale and Susan Camnack plus his Volvo Amazon outside the Chelsea Potter.
