Bat Cave Goth Girl, London, 1982 ST#49

'Billy's' (worse for wear) nightclub on Meard Street in Soho had been the location of 'Bowie Night' (on Tuesdays) which, needing larger premises, moved on to the Blitz Club in Covent Garden. In July 1982 this same dodgy location hosted 'The Batcave' where the Goth Subculture was born. (Well, more like became a known label: certainly the likes of Siouxie and her Banshees were in what might be described as Gothic mode from the earliest days of Punk in 1976. This photo was taken outside where everyone was waiting to be let in on the opening night of the Batcave.)
