After WWII, some upper-class 'toffs' revived a style of long 'drape' coats which had been popular during the Edwardian Era. Not to be outdone many working-class teens adopted the same style, mixing it with some Rockabilly influences from the USA. In the UK 'Ted' is an abbreviation of 'Edward' - hence 'Teddy Boys'.
