My father's (Charles Polhemus) parents in a more jovial mode than I would have imagined them. Nancy Allgor Polhemus, who came from an area more inland than Neptune City, was renowned for walking several miles to and from the Methodist church every Sunday. She earned money making meals for prisoners in the town jail and, later, looking after a girl with some sort of muscular disease which meant that Nancy had to lift her - my father always thought that this strain on her heart was what caused her death by heart attack. Russell Polhemus was a gas station attendant, electrician, odd job man.
